Our Team

Jim Stollberg

Owner and Santa Barbara County native Jim Stollberg knew that vineyard management was his passion. A degree in Crop Science and Management with a viticulture emphasis from U.C. Davis in 1999 led to a career of vineyard management with Hampton Farming Company, and in 2007 he created Maverick Farming Company, focusing on management in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties. Becoming vertically integrated and investing in properties, as well as a strong management team, provides a well rounded perspective for our clients. Jim's philosophy is constant forward motion in the field: "As a vineyard manager and viticulturalist there is no substitute for continual learning and improvement of all aspects of winegrowing." Jim lives in Santa Maria with his wife Samantha and 2 children.

Santiago Novoa

As the Supervisor of our ranches here at Maverick Farming, Santiago oversees all crew operations. Santiago was born in Mexico and moved to the United States in 1979. His career in agriculture began in the Coachella Valley, where he worked in table grapes for 6 years. In 1987, he moved up to Santa Maria and, not long after, began working for Hampton Farming at North Canyon Vineyards. He started off in the crew before working his way up to Field Supervisor. He is an invaluable part of our everyday operations management and a great leader for all of our employees. To Santiago, the most rewarding aspect of working in vineyards is seeing the hard work pay off throughout the season from bud break to harvest. When he’s not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family. He is surrounded by the company of his wife, two sons, daughter, granddaughter, and two grandsons.

Chad Foster

Chad is a native of the Central Coast. He pursued his education at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he started off as a History major, but eventually changed his degree to Wine and Viticulture, with a concentration in Viticulture. His work experience in agriculture began in 2014 when he interned for a fertilizer company, managing a portfolio of product demonstration trials from Santa Maria to Watsonville. In 2015, he began interning for Jim Stollberg of Maverick Farming Company, which led to a full-time position in 2017 when he graduated from Cal Poly. He currently is the Operations Manager for their vineyard properties in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties. He also oversees the SIP program (Sustainable In Practice) for all of our clients, which focuses on sustainable wine grape growing practices. He continues to plant his roots on the Central Coast and currently lives in his hometown of Orcutt, CA.
